June 17 Dinner: Turkey Meatballs, Broccoli Salad, & Roasted Sweet Potatoes
My first Urban Pl8 Paleo meal (the first of this round anyway). They did not disappoint! The broccoli had some sort of yummy marinade on it that I really liked. The sweet potatoes and turkey were also good. Solid meal so far!
June 16 Dinner: Father’s Day Dinner at Dad’s!
I headed to Dad’s on Sunday evening to celebrate Father’s Day. He and S had a Boston butt on the Big Green Egg and collards on the stove. Hooray for BBQ!!
We watched the US Open on TV and watching Rowdy and Turbo spar with each other (they never stop!), then settled in for a tasty meal of pulled pork, potato salad, collards, and cracklin’ bread. A fun and relaxing day!
June 15 Dinner: Pesto Chicken Wrap + Fries at Ormsby’s
Some folks at my last agency decided to get together for dinner and cocktails on Saturday evening at Ormsby’s. It was a lot of fun catching up with the people who attended! I managed to make it through half of this wrap, but man, this was a lot of food!
Ormsby’s is a lot of fun, though it definitely attracts a younger crowd. They have a lot of games - bocce, shuffleboard, darts, pool, board games - that sort of thing. That makes it fun that you’re not just standing around drinking, but there’s always a line for all these features, so if you go, prep yourself for that!
June 14 Dinner: Rainy Day Tomato Soup + Stilton Salad at The Shakespeare Tavern
Mom and I saw Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead at The Shakespeare Tavern on Friday. Such a good time! I love this soup! It’s kind of our thing: we each get a bowl then split the salad. And then there’s the apple crisp during intermission. SO DELICIOUS.
June 13 Dinner: Sushi from Aloha
On Thursday night, I had planned to pick up a little sushi from Gekko, but then it started pouring, so I decided to order sushi delivery from Aloha. It was a combo dinner and it was more sushi than I expected! I only made it through about half of this. When you factor in the soup and salad it comes with, that’s a lot of food.
June 12 Dinner: Chicken Bowl from Chipotle
Tonight was finals for the class that I teach! So glad to be done with that. I like teaching, but it’s a time-commitment and it wears me out. I’ve decided to take the summer quarter off, but am thinking that I’ll probably go back in the fall. We’ll see.
I celebrated witha a chicken bowl from Chipotle. :)
June 11 Dinner: Tacos + Fried Green Tomatos from Jim & Nick’s BBQ
I had a really stressful day on Tuesday so I met up with BFF and her hubby for some margaritas. Jim & Nick’s has Taco Tuesday with $3 margaritas - YES. I got a beef brisket and fried chicken taco based on BFF’s recommendation. I liked the brisket, but was just ho-hum about the chicken. The tomatoes were the bomb!
June 10 Dinner: Turtle Stew, Sauteed Spinach and Mushrooms
When I visited my dad, he hooked me up with some turtle stew he picked up at his game and fish club. It’s been a really long time since I’ve had turtle stew - it’s bitch to clean the turtle meat and a turtle doesn’t yield a whole lot.
This stew was okay, but I’ve had much better. I recall it being much creamier. This may have looked creamy in the photos, but this one was more brothy than creamy. I ended up adding my mushrooms into the stew to give it more depth and body. That ended up making it pretty good!
June 9 Dinner: Leftover Chicken Alfredo
I was pretty exhausted from the previous night’s activities, which meant I didn’t want to cook nor did I want to go out to get something. Which led me to eat some of the leftovers from the visit to my Dad’s.
On Saturday, I drove over to Auburn, Alabama for an unofficial high school reunion. I started the day out with a little carrots and hummus (from my meal at Olive Bistro).

On the way, I ate a Kind bar in the car.

The event was small and intimate. Our hostess M had a large smorgasbord of veggies, olives, hummus, and pimento cheese. I forgot to take photos but it was generally pretty healthy and yummy. It was really cool going to this because I saw people I haven’t seen in a long time. There were originally supposed to be a lot more folks attending but many people backed out at the last minute. But I was honestly okay with that. The people who did go were people I hadn’t seen in a long time. Some of them as far back as high school graduation, which was back in 1997!
As far as the food goes, we just basically grazed all day on the above snacks, then later ate guacamole and cheese dip. Later in the evening, we all headed over to the hotel that everyone was staying at and having cocktails at the hotel bar, followed by eating birthday cake (both a girl at the party and the hostess’ kid had a birthday that we celebrated).
It was such a fun evening. Drunken and silly but so good to see everyone and I’m excited to start hanging out with them in Atlanta moving forward!
